Our team here at L&G Learning where thinking about what we could do to promote a healthy lifestyle to our Learners on the Employability course and as we all know or at least we have all seen on TV or Instagram or Twitter or some other form of electronic communication stuff (I don’t have a clue what I am talking about here) being or feeling fitter makes you feel better about yourself and gives you more energy.
Here is a little bit of science to back up my big claim:
Dopamine is a chemical that plays a role in happiness it is a neurotransmitter. I know you are saying “What is a neuro thingy” well thanks to the wonders of google here is the definition:
A neurotransmitter is a chemical substance which is released at the end of a nerve fibre by the arrival of a nerve impulse and, by diffusing across the synapse or junction, effects the transfer of the impulse to another nerve fibre, a muscle fibre, or some other structure. in the brain that’s necessary for feelings of pleasure and happiness. (Phew must be true as there is a lot of big words in there)
On a personal note. Studies suggest that as we age, we’re constantly losing our stores of dopamine, which is why we need to constantly seek out experiences that release dopamine. (this explains why I am a grumpy old man. I thought I was going through the menopause. Nope I am just unfit)
So how do I get some of this Dopamine stuff? Well The best way to increase your brain’s dopamine production is. Exercise. So run, lift, jump, play — and get happy. (I knew there was a catch)
On the back of all this science, we decided to contact The Gym Group and see if we could come up with a plan that would allow our learners to join the Gym whilst on the course so that we could support them in the pursuit of happiness (see Dopamine). They have kindly agreed to work in partnership with L&G Learning and provide 2 months Gym membership whilst with us.
We hope to hear form you soon and get that Dopamine pumping.
