Lorna Trainer - Director

I left school at 16 to work as a Clerical assistant. I didn’t really know what job I wanted, but I was particularly good at typing. I have always believed in equality and social justice and did some voluntary work with the Simon Community in Glasgow. This ignited my professional journey towards becoming a Social Worker. I worked in a number of locations including Drumchapel and became a Senior Social Worker in Children and Families. I loved the training role this involved and pursued a career as a Lecturer in Further Education. I worked in 4 different Colleges as a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer and Head of School at James Watt (now West College Greenock). I set up and established l&g learning on 1st September 2006 with the aim to provide a flexible, responsive learning, development and consultancy service supporting employers to improve service delivery and provide a learner centred programme for the candidate.

I’m a strong believer in life long learning and have accumulated a few qualifications at various SCQF Levels to suit the job role including; Dip in Social Work, CQSW; TQFE (Teaching qualification in Further Education) Assessor and Verifier Awards and V2 Award (SQA External Verifier Qualification), MSc in Human Resource Management and Diploma in Digital Marketing (Modern Apprenticeship). During SQA’s annual Star Awards in 2018, I was thrilled to be awarded the SQA Fellowship Award for outstanding contribution to Scottish Education.

I remain passionate about equality and social justice and continue to promote these aims where possible in my capacity as Chair of the Board of the Scottish Training Federation and member of the Federation of Small Business Scottish Policy Unit.

Jacqui is one of our longest serving assessors. Making the move from nursery manager to assessor in 2015 Jacqui has supported hundreds of Apprentices on their learning journey.

“I graduated from College after completing my NNEB in early years education. I have since had the opportunity to continue to build on my skills and knowledge within different work roles.

I gained experience firstly within a Nursery as a childcare practitioner. I have since taken on the roles as support worker in a Respite Centre supporting children with additional support needs, Deputy Manager, Manager of a Nursery and to my present role as an Assessor in SQV’s, levels 2,3 & 4.

I find the role as an Assessor fulfilling and have a great sense of pride in the candidates. I love supporting them through their learning journey, seeing them building their knowledge and skills and then watching them use this within their practice, while they grow and develop.”

Jacqui was a finalist in Skills Development Scotland’s Scottish Apprenticeship Awards. Jacqui was nominated for her outstanding contribution working with Apprentice’s of all ages. Read all about Jacqui’s story here - Jacqui’s Scottish Apprenticeship Awards story

Linzi Robertson - SVQ Assessor

Linzi started working with l&g learning in 2020 and has went from strength to strength supporting young people on their Employability journey and now an established assessor within the team.

“I started my career in care studying an HNC in Healthcare, then progressing on to an HNC in Early Education and Childcare which opened my eyes to the joys of working with and supporting children in the earliest years of their development. I have worked full time in childcare settings ever since.

Throughout this time, I have taken part in many training courses to develop my knowledge further and have completed both the SVQ 4 in Children's Care, Learning and Development and more recently the BA Childhood Practice. I have years of practice in nursery management positions which has provided me with the knowledge and skills to support candidates through their qualifications using first-hand experience and guidance.”
