After fleeing the war in Ukraine, Lora (Larysa) and Jane (Yevheniia) rebuilt their lives in Scotland while pursuing careers in childcare.

Despite language barriers, adapting to a new culture and the heartbreak of losing their mothers during their apprenticeships, both learners successfully achieved their SVQ 3 Social Services (Children and Young People) in under 11 months at Play Away Nursery.

After completing her Level 5 Childcare qualification at school, Ritah continued her journey through the NC Childhood Practice course, gaining valuable knowledge and practical experience in an early years setting.

Choosing the apprenticeship route over further full-time study, she joined Kelvinside Academy Nursery and successfully achieved her SVQ Level 3 in Social Services (Children and Young People) in just 12 months.

After completing her Level 5 Childcare qualification at school, Tia chose the modern apprenticeship route to begin her career in childcare.

Fourteen months later, she has achieved her SVQ Level 3 in Social Services (Children and Young People) and secured a permanent position with Little Hands Nursery.

Praised by Nursery Manager Lorna McKeown for growing into a confident practitioner, Tia's success is a fantastic example of how apprenticeships help learners build skills, confidence, and rewarding careers.

Billie Melrose completed her Children & Young People Modern Apprenticeship in just eight months after joining Hillfoot Nursery in November 2025. With a strong academic background in Psychology and valuable experience from an after‑school setting, Billie quickly excelled in her SVQ. Starting her apprenticeship at 24, she proves that Modern Apprenticeships are a powerful route for adults seeking a career change. Supported throughout by her assessor Linzi, Billie developed confidence, professional skills and a clear passion for Early Years. Her journey reflects dedication, ambition and the impact of high‑quality mentorship.

Marwa’s passion for childcare began with her volunteer work at a local Arabic school, which led her to pursue a Modern Apprenticeship. After impressing the team at Monkey Puzzle Nursery, she secured a position and quickly applied her learning, earning her SVQ Level 3 qualification in just 13 months. Recognised for her dedication and growth, Marwa has now taken her next big step, securing a place at college to continue her studies in Social Care. Her future is bright, and her journey is just beginning!
