Social Care Careers Week 2022

Hello!

I hope everyone is right into the swing of things now that we are in December- where has this year gone? This time of year is always so busy in Early Years and this month’s blog post celebrates the dedication and love that goes into working in the care sector.

Last week saw the first ever Social Care Careers Week which put a spotlight on careers in care and educated people about what job roles are available, and what an amazing and rewarding sector this is to be a part of.

At L&G Learning, we were proud to be one of the partners taking part last week to put a spotlight on social care careers and to encourage people to consider a role in this amazing sector. The care sector has a wide range of roles which all work together to provide the best care and support to those who use our social care settings and services. Although each role is different, there are common qualities which are highly regarded and desirable and these are important to consider when thinking about a career in this sector.

I asked members of the L&G Team, some of our current Modern Apprentices and some people who are qualified and working in different care settings for 3 main qualities of someone who works in the care sector. Here is what they said:

Never believe that a few caring people can't change the world. For, indeed, that's all who ever have - Margaret Mead

If you are supporting someone in their journey to working in this sector, advertising for a member of staff or an apprentice or if you or someone you know is interested in a care role, these are all great qualities to include in applications, CVs and in job descriptions.

Many of the team here at L&G Learning have experience working in the care sector- particularly in childcare. Before I started working here, I was an Early Years Teacher for 10 years. In that time, I had the privilege of working with many incredible nursery teams across a number of settings. The role of an early years practitioner is crucial to give children the best start I life. It is a job which is ever-changing because the world is ever-changing!

All roles in the care sector require dedication, hard work and commitment but it is one of the most rewarding and life-changing areas to have a career in. Working in this sector, in any of its many roles, rewards you infinitely for your efforts and provides endless opportunities to see first hand the difference you can make in people’s lives.

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around - Leo Buscaglia
